Leonora Okine Can’t Live Without Kenkey

793663715_836700Save your breaths, all you food scientists who have been shouting hoarse your concerns over the supposedly undesirably high levels of toxins in kenkey.

Here comes a lady who cannot do without kenkey.

She is actress Leonora Okine who claims that for the past 20 years, she has been eating Ga kenkey every day or at least five times a week.

“I am always hungry for kenkey and I can eat the cornmeal in the morning, afternoon and evening”.

Not surprising, Leonora knows all the joints where good Ga kenkey is sold in Accra.

She mentioned to Showbiz some joints where she goes for her kenkey. “At Osu one can get nice kenkey at the Night Market; Airport around Nyaho Clinic; Korle-Gono opposite St. Mary’s Secondary; and La near Olympia”, she said.

“Even in Tema, I know about Communities 11 and 5”.

Known for her performances in TV series such as Tinsil, Desperation, Peep, Secrets, Different Shades of Blue, Happy Family, 5 Brides, Echoes, and movies Enemy Of My Soul, JagaJaga, Wide Awake, Blood and Chocolate, Beautiful Monster and Insurgents, Leonora said she could not remember the very few times she had had to throw away balls of kenkey she bought because they had gone bad.

Asked how Ga kenkey became her favourite meal, Leonora revealed that when she was young, the only food her mum would allow her to buy outside home was Ga kenkey.

“I barely bought any food outside my house apart from Ga kenkey because my mum wasn’t sure of the other foods.

Leonora told Showbiz she had gone to movie producer Shirley Frimpong to ask about the process of selecting Miss Ghana via SMS and voice call when Shirley Frimpong asked her if she could play a part in Different Shades of Blue, Shirley’s first TV series she was about to shoot.

After appearing in Different Shades of Blue, the graduate with a BSc. in Operations and Project Management from GIMPA began to play more roles in TV series.

Born to Leo Aye Okine from Dawu Akwapim in the Eastern Region and Francisca Bortey from Nungua, a suburb of Accra, Leonora admitted it has not been easy trying to play different characters demanded by various directors.

She said she tries her best to play real.

About her love-life, Leonora who has been linked to actor John Dumelo said “I don’t know why people still ask about my relationship with John Dumelo. John and I are very good friends but there is nothing between the two of us. There are few men knocking at my door but I am waiting for the right time to decide who I want to go out in order not to make a mistake in the future”.

Although she is mostly seen in TV series, Leonora said she is yet to make herself known to Ghanaians by featuring in a lot more movies. “I have turned down many scripts from movie producers because I wanted to focus on my TV series but I guess it is time for me to accept scripts from producers and make myself more popular in Ghana”, she said.
