R2Bees wins Artiste of Year at 2013 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards

Tema-based music duo, R2Bees were at the wee hours of Sunday crowned Artiste of the Year at the 2013 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

The event which came off at the Accra International Conference Centre saw the group beat off competition from D-Black, VIP, Kwaw Kese, Cwesi Oteng and 4X4 to win the coveted award which for the first time came with a prize of a brand new MG 550 saloon car.

R2Bees also walked home with five other awards including Hi-life Song of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, Group of the Year, and the Vodafone Most Popular Song of the Year.

Other winners on the night include Kaakie who won Reggae Dancehall Song of the Year and New Artiste of the Year while rapper M.Anifest won Hiphop Song of the Year and Rapper of the Year.

E.L. walked away with the Album of the Year award while Wizkid won African Artiste of the Year.

This year’s awards, with its impressive stage design kicked off with splendid performances from Efya and UK-based Afropop sensation Fuse ODG. Interesting both acts were award winners on the night; Efya won Female Vocal Performance while Fuse ODG bagged the Afro Pop Song of the Year award.

Bandana vents anger at Charter House after losing Ghana music award to Kaakie

Dancehall artiste, Bandana has descended heavily on Charter House, organizers of the annual Ghana Music Awards accusing the outfit of illegally awarding the Reggae Dance Hall Song of the Year award to Kaakie.

Just some few minutes after Kaakie was announced winner of that category which also had Bandana, Blakk Rasta, Eazzy, Knii Lante and Samini as contenders, the artiste popularly known for the hit song Bandana From Ghana took to social media platform, Twitter to vent his anger at the organizers.

This year’s awards came off at the Accra International Conference Centre Saturday night and while many have praised organizers for a good show, Bandana thinks otherwise.

He tweeted that: “F**k Ghana music industry, F**k charter house and I mean this from my heart .i don’t need them in any way ..big up to all Shatta wale fans.”

“F**king hypocrites,liars,sons and daughters of satan,I hope they sleep and don’t wake up.. Charter hose should used for a public toilet …..I don’t need any award in Gh or any nomination..f**k Gh music industry..” he added.

Bandana did not spare Kaakie, who walked away with two awards on the night. He said: “F**k khakie who [can't] even write her own music…I know how they did this…but trus mi we kno how to handle dis.”

Shatta City hit singer added that: “I pray all those who mis judge me here face the wrath of the almighty that has given me the talent and mankind is not appreciating. This time I will direct people to the nearest public toilet..charter house hahahaha ha..”

According to Bandana, known in real life as Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr, “I don’t need awards cuz I got my own money 3cars and a house ..f**k you all hates …foolish villagers on twitter..awards my foot. Dem no have money like me …I’ve award ago chop…all I want talk be say dem for no waste my time..fools.”

“Ano chop dis money saf finish..kwasia fuor…..no much charter house go fit pay me.. My dear God,As the rain fall and thunder strikes …I want to see all who want me fall dead by morning.Amen..if u be man try me..,” Bandana concluded.

Yvonne Nelson To Judge Miss Universe Ghana Finals

Miss Universe 2011, Leila Lopes is expected to make a second visit to Ghana later this month as a judge of 2013 Miss Universe Ghana finals.

The Angolan beauty queen was named, by organizers of the pageant, Roberta Annan Consulting (RAC), among five personalities who will judge the finale of the prestigious event.

She will join Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson; presenter Benny Blanco; Brian D. Hogan, founder of investment firm Paradigm Capital Group; and model Veronica Varekova as judges of the pageant.

This year’s Miss Universe Ghana finals is scheduled to take place on May 25, 2013 and although organizers have not named a venue for the event yet, sources say the Accra International Conference Centre may host the finale.

Leila was crowned Miss Universe 2011 at the 60th Miss Universe pageant in Rio Janeiro, Brazil.

This was the first time in 12 years that an African won the title and also became the second black African woman ever to be a Miss Universe titleholder.

Leila Lopes visited Ghana last year during a tour of SOS Villages and Orphanages across West Africa.

Precious Kyei Bonsu To Co-host Miss Ghana 2013 Reality TV Show

A finalist of the Miss Ghana 2012 pageant, and winner of the Miss Photogenic award, Precious Kyei Bonsu, will co-host this year’s reality television show, the organizers have said.

Bonsu, who currently is a radio presenter, News Anchor and Assistant morning show producer at the Kumasi-based adult-friendly station, Ultimate Radio, will join GTV and Choice FM presenter Ato Turkson, for the exciting reality series, hitting mainstream local television soon.

Currently one of Kumasi’s favourite female voices on air, Bonus’s bubbly personality should effectively complement Turkson’s adroit presentation skills to give viewers a solid half hour television show.

The exciting Miss Ghana TV series will capture the pageant in it’s entirety from the May 30 to June 1 national auditions at the Travel Express Hotel, in Accra, corporate visits, the grand launch, touring of special sites, to exclusive behindthe-scenes footage, the national finals, interviews, and Vox Pops among other exciting features.

Tina Asante Back With Third Album

Not much has been heard of gospel artiste Tina Asante after the release of her second album, Madamfo which had her popular Amansan track but after some pains-taking time in the studio, she is out with her third album titled Wo Boɔ Nie.

Songs on the 12-track album include My Helper, Hallelujah, Remember Me, Faithfulness, Broken Heart, Be Bold, Me Nyame Ye and Aseda Boɔ.

She recorded the album which spots reggae, highlife, worship and praise at Nacy Recordz, Wave Box Studio and Master’s Studio.

Wo Boɔ Nie is one of the reggae songs on the album. It is an upbeat, danceable track. In her lyrics, Tina describes God as a truthful entity whose sayings always come to pass.

One of the highlife pieces Tina offers is Me Nyame Ye. The song gives her the opportunity to praise God for His patience and goodness for rehabilitating her shattered dreams.

According to the singer, it took a while for her to come with this album because she wanted the best for her fans.

“I always go for quality and not quantity and that is why this album is now here. I strongly believe that many are going to like it because there are songs to satisfy different age groups,” Tina told Showbiz.

Always a bubbly personality, Tina is married to Rev. Kwabena Asante with three children. She attended St John’s Grammar School at Achimota and got into gospel music in the 1990s as a member of the Tree of Life Gospel Band at Lartehbiokorshie in Accra.

She later sang backing vocals for Helena Rabbles and was part of the Getty and Friends outfit before recording her own material. Her first album, Ma Nante was released in 2002. She followed that up with

Madamfo in 2009. Wo Boɔ Nie came out two months ago.It is an admirable collection which shows how much maturity has come her way since her debut album.

She is happy the album is getting good exposure and hopes to back the promotion up with adequate live appearances.

Stakeholders in the African and Diaspora Filmmaking Industry are gearing up for the Annual African Film Development Awards to be held on June 29 2013 in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

Pan African Film Development and Advancement Foundation, PAFDAF; through its registered project African Film Development Foundation, AFDF holds the African Film Development Awards, AFDA.

The event marks a reawakening of the need for African sensitive filmmaking ventures. It will also further such sentiments in Diaspora Africa filmmaking projects from concept to exhibition practices.

Africa Film Development Awards “In the spirit of Africa”, will run through Lectures/Symposium on African Cinema, June 28; African Cultural Night also on June 28 and Awards/Gala Night on the 29th. The awards after party will be on June 30 at Zanzibar Island.

“We Can’t Continue To Produce Azonto Beats” – Kaywa

Azonto went viral globally within the first few months of its introduction. The dance form that has influenced a new Ghanaian rhythm has been performed on various world stages by both Ghanaians and other nationals.

‘Azonto’ is seen by many as one of Ghana’s biggest cultural exports of the past decade but is the trend sustainable? Is the music form that

accompanies the dance form realistically marketable worldwide? Can Azonto outlive the current generation of music lovers?

Celebrated Ghanaian music producer and winner of the Sound Engineer of the Year award, KAYWA, says Azonto needs some tweaking to make it more appealing.

In an interview with Kojo Akoto Boateng on Kumasi-based Ultimate Radio, Kaywa alluded to the fact that Azonto pushed the brand of Ghana internationally. However, he contends that the Azonto beat should metamorphose into something richer than it is now.

” Now I see a lot of great changes but we can’t continue to produce Azonto beats. The best we can do now is to take it deeper, do some quality Afropop songs. when you listen to Afropop beats they are entirely different from Azonto beats. Azonto is having your kicks, snares,

something small to work around with but Afropop goes to another extent by adding techno elements and other music forms to make it better and more appealing.”

According to Kaywa, even though Azonto is Ghanaian, Nigerian musicians have picked it up and improved it and making better waves internationally.

He told Kojo that industry players in Ghana should all make a conscious effort to fine tune Azonto to make it more commercially viable globally.

According to Kaywa, he will never go off track in delivering quality productions for music lovers.

“I will never do what everybody is doing. If you check my productions from last year to this time, I’ve been doing what I can do best. Expect good tunes and great sound quality from me,” he added.

Ghanaian dancehall sensation Emmanuel Andrew Samini says because he lives a ‘classy lifestyle’, his haters are now spreading rumours that he smokes like international reggae legend Bob Marley of blessed memory.

Bob Marley was noted in history for having over 13 children with numerous women aside his wife, Rita Marley, so it may not be too farfetched for one to relate Samini who is currently married to two women and has four children to him. Perhaps it is the wee smoking link that may be a below the belt punch.
