My journey was challenging but…….. Ekow Otoo

“My journey was challenging but I have accomplished my dreams and you can too” that’s what most guests communicate on Nayoka Oware’s show “The journey”. The guest on the show this time with no exception, he has been living with Multi Sclerosis since childhood and managed to live with it into adulthood but was properly diagnosed this year. The guest on the Journey is 23 years old Ekow Otoo who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis (an inflammatory disease in which the insulating covers of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged) According to Ekow the condition is when your immune starts to fight against you instead. White blood cells production increases in the body and the cells attacks the miline on your nerves which allows electric signals into your body for actions like walking. It causes spasms and pain during that time. He feels this pain almost every day so he takes painkillers three times in a day. On some days you feel fatigue throughout and MS is not a disease that can’t be prevented because of how fast it develops. He also confirmed that Multiple Sclerosis has no cure.

Ekow Otoo first discovered this when one day he couldn’t get up from bed as a child, he couldn’t feel both his legs. He told ‘The journey’ that it’s a condition common in children born in Africa. He is no exception as he was born in Ghana and later moved with his family to the States. His experiences has helped him to be an advocate to others who suffer from this condition. Ekow has learnt to adapt and able to walk. Ekow has a positive attitude in his condition and he doesn’t feel sorry for himself. He has embraced it even with some experience of depression but he has pulled through. Ekow educates others on how to live with MS.
