Katy Perry’s pastor parents: Her divorce from Russell Brand has helped fill churches

Katy Perry’s mum and dad have suggested her split from Russell Brandwas a gift from God.

Comedian Russell filed for divorce at the end of December and now Katy‘s parents – pastors Keith and Mary Hudson – have spoken for the first time about the break up to a packed church in Ohio.

‘I’m sure Katy is trending on the internet just to get you to church tonight,’ Mary, 63, quipped to the Church On The Rise congregation.

‘I mean all over the world, who knows how God is bringing them in? The important thing is you are here.’

Russell, who allegedly had a furious argument with Katy, 27, before Christmas, cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ for the breakdown of the relationship.

‘Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage,’ announced Russell, 36.

‘I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.’
