Music has a greater presence at Sundance festival Associated Press

PARK CITY, Utah (AP) — The 2012 Sundance Film Festival in Utah isn’t just about movies. Festival director John Cooper says organizers added more music to the 11-day festival this year to encourage relationships between independent filmmakers and musicians.

The ASCAP Music Cafe on Park City’s Main Street hosts artists every day during the festival and also nightly concerts. And parties around town feature established and emerging musicians, such as R&B singer Estelle and Swedish DJ Sebastian Ingrosso.

Documentaries about Neil Young, Paul Simon and Ice-T are also part of the festival lineup.

ASCAP Music Cafe producer Loretta Munoz says the festival’s mission is similar to that of the songwriters’ organization she represents — to foster great art by encouraging and supporting independent artists.

The Sundance festival continues through Sunday.
