Some musicians today are not talented – Ex-Doe

One of hiplife’s music pioneers, Richard Kwasi Siaw Afrofi popularly known as Ex-Doe has expressed worry at the low standards of music being produced in recent times.

He has attributed the phenomenon to what he says is the lack of talent by some musicians in the industry.

The artiste who has been absent from the industry for some years now expressed this worry during an interview on Day Break Hitz on Hitz FM with Lexis Bill, Monday.

Whiles he admits that the media is playing a lead role in expanding music beyond the country’s frontiers, “I see more ‘wanna bees’…The talent is not there. They (musicians) are cool when it comes to sound, stage act, everything is good but the delivery is not really there.

“…Back then we put in energy, we make sure we work, we stand there for hours. We don’t come and sing two songs or three songs…You go to the North (Northern Ghana) to do two songs? You can’t. They pay to come there, you play a lot,” he emphasised.

Ex-Doe also faulted producers for using money to push substandard songs on to the market.

“They can package an artiste make the artiste look very big, do the necessary promotion and everything but putting the artiste on a point to deliver what he/she has to do is hard.”

He called for help for the good ones who he said can easily be noticed by all. “Those who have the talent but are hidden, have no help. They should just open the way for all kinds of talents…”

However, he said the industry is growing, “now the cash is bigger, they pay [well] and also in terms of publicity but, “the content is not that rich,” calling on producers to help market artistes with talent.

Ex-Doe, which means extra money, shot into fame in 1996 at the age of 15 with his smash hit Daavi mede kuku which he collaborated with Chicago – a collaboration which later turned into a ‘turf war’ between the two.

But years down the line, Ex-Doe says they are good friends who see each other often.

He has several hit songs including; Yebre, Gogo wo ho and Comfort to his credit.

He disclosed that he is still actively involved in music but is also on the verge of entering into comedy and movies.

Ex-Doe said, he is feverishly preparing towards the release of another album onto the market but before then he has released a single, Gbemisola which he featured Aj Omo Alajah from Nigeria.
