16 Malaika ladies unveiled

imagesCrown Apartmento hotel in Accra played host to a bevy of beautiful young ladies when Charterhouse, organisers of the Miss Malaika  pageant unveiled its 16 finalists for this year’s competition last Friday.

The 16 delegates were selected from 300 wannabes after weeks of “grueling” sessions from  judges- William Asiedu, Hamamat Montia and Karen Kane.

They are Jedidah Ama Biney, Dionne Addofoly, Kuukua Korsah, Gifty Akweley Amarteifio, Kumang Lugu-Zuri, Mamatah Abdul-Rahmaan, Karen Cofie, Doreen Essilfie and Beverly Efya Aidoo.

The rest are Suweida Alhassan, Naana Antwiwaa Nuamah, Selinam Kwadzodza, Martha Daniels, Suraya Kariyama, Kezia Acquah, Dorothy Daniels and Dorothy Osei.

The ladies exuded confidence as they stepped on stage in pairs sporting African prints much to the admiration of the audience who cheered their favourite contestants on.

It must have been a “campaign” platform for some of the delegates as they seized the opportunity to talk about some of the qualities they possess which will be ticket to claim the bragging rights of the Miss Malaika 2015 crown in addition to a scholarship package.

This year’s journey started when hundreds of hopefuls thronged the GhOne studios  for the pageant’s  auditioning. The judges selected 300 ladies and the number watered down to the final 16.

According to Miss Hamamat Montia who won the pageant in 2006, the judges settled on the final 16 based on this year’s theme, Beautiful Inside Out.

“We didn’t want ladies to just compete for a crown. We were looking for a total  package made up of beauty, intelligence and gracefulness and we believe the final contestants reflect what we are looking for in a Malaika queen,” she told Showbiz on the sidelines of the event.

The development manager of Gh One, Kafui Dogbatse, also emphasised the importance of the Miss Malaika pageant which started  in 2003  when he stated the numerous benefits conetstants have enjoyed after  the show.

“ The pageant provides the right platform to groom our young ladies and it is not surprising how many of them excel in show business and other related fields when they are out of the competition. These are some of the benefits that inures to a Malaika contestant,” he stated.

Miss Malaika 2015 is a GhOne Entertainment TV production, supported by Charterhouse with Vaseline, Rexona, Optimal, Abeam Institute of Technology, Glam Make Up, Novelle Beauty College, Sultana as sponsors and GTP, Chase, Koko King, Shakes and Flavors as donors.
