16 year old Gar-Field High School senior to build library in Ghana
During the summer of 2014, Francisca Boateng, along with Speakwell Foundation, went to Ghana with the mission of teaching the youth public speaking. Upon her return, she informed her daughter, Samantha Boateng, who is currently a senior in high school, about the unfortunate situation of these children. They had no library available for recreational or educational purposes. As an avid reader, Samantha Boateng was bewildered by the fact that many children her age had never seen a library and did not have this amazing resource available. She decided to change this by creating Read 2 Lead to encourage reading within the community. She began by collecting books to build a library and holding book drives at churches and schools and has collected over 7,000 books. Samantha will build her library this June in Accra, Ghana. She will be aided by the New School of Northern Virginia. In order for her trip to be successful, she is currently collecting used and new books and money for the shipment and development of the library.
