All set for Kumasi dumsor vigil

All is set for the demonstration against the worsening power crisis in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.

The dumsor vigil is under the auspices of the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG).

This is to support the #durmsormuststop campaign began by their colleague movie producers, actors and actresses in Accra to put more pressure on government to find a lasting solution to the power crisis.

In an interview with Adom News, Secretary of FIPAG, James Aboagye said they have concluded all arrangements with the police for the vigil to come off on May 28, 2015.

The demonstrators will converge at the Kumasi Culture Centre, pass through some principal streets like Bantama, Ash Town, Adum and converge at the Jubilee Park for the vigil. They will be made up of renowned movie producers, popular actors and actresses in Kumasi, he added.

James Aboagye bemoaned the negative impact the energy crisis is having on the movie industry and believes government will heed to their plea if enouh pressure is applied.

He advised interested person who hope to join the vigil not to come in any political party colours.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has expressed its readiness for the vigil.

ASP Mohammed Yusif Tanko said they will provide the necessary protection for the protestors, and cautioned hooligans not to join the vigil because the police will be on red alert.
