Black n Peach wins Vodafone ICONS Mixed Edition

Music group Black n Peach, made up of Emma Orleans-Lindsay, Noble Nii Nortey and Noella have lot to tell of how they came to win second edition of the Vodafone Icon music reality show.

And why not, their answer lies the fact that as a group, they have been up for eviction twice and in both instances have been saved by the judges twice due owing to their great stage performance, a clear case of born to win.

After 13 weeks of intense competition, the finale at the National Theatre Thursday night which saw Black n Peach, Waves and Vybez locking horns to claim the bragging rights as this season's winners, was in itself a great spectacle.

A very packed National Theatre was ready for action and they got just that three finalists gave it their all hoping to conquer all.

Black n Peach brought their magic to bear from the word go. Their choice and acapella performance of Becca's Daa Ke Daa was enough to give hints that they were in for a fight of their lives, beating the performances from Waves and Vybez.

Of the three acapella's Black n Peach's was the only Ghanaian as the , Waves and Vybez, performed Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing and Stevie Wonder's Isn't She Lovely respectively.

After two rounds and as the competition reached its peak, the boys were separated from the men. Waves – Rosemary Ampofoh, Gertrude Hansen-Sackey and Joshua were given the boot.

The last leg of the competition saw Black n Peach and Vybez squaring off to prove their superiority.

Vybez in their final attempt performed New Edition's classic hit Cool It Down and although it was a good performance, it lacked the wow factor that would have catapulted them to glory.

Black n Peach did hit a home run with their final attempt. Their performance of Tina Turner's smash hit Simply The Bestdid the trick and sealed their fate as the best of the night.

That performance saw judge of the show and their mentor, Kwame Appiah aka Appietus shed tears of joy. A second judge, Gena West, was sure if the guys if you “…continue singing like that, you will be making hits after hits.”

After all was said and done, Black n Peach was crowned winners and for their prize, they walked away with a KIA Sorento, GHS60,000, a one year management contract and they will also perform at the Vodafone 020 Live concert scheduled to come off later this year.
