I enjoy acting because it pays – Katawere

106333755_396952One of Ghana’s controversial actors Ebenezer Yaw Donkor, popularly known as Katawere of Efiewura fame has disputed claims that acting is a poor business.

Speaking on Abrabo Asempa FM’s midmorning show Mr. Yaw Donkor said gone are those days when some actors and actresses suffered financial constrains and died poorly after retirement.

According to him, actors are often paid instantly as soon as they accept their scripts, stressing that there is no way any serious actor will go poor after pension.

“I sincerely encouraged young people who have the desire to go into acting to keep focus because it pays.”

The father of four said he has not regretted abandoning his tailoring job for acting.

Known as Agya Afari in the Efiewura T.V Series where he played the role of a controversial and difficult landlord, Yaw Donkor is a form two dropout (now JHS two) who later took up tailoring as a profession.

Prior to his acting career, Katawere says he worked with the then glamour stores and later had to carry his sewing machine around from house to house as “oye adiaye”.

Growing up, he lived with his grandmother while schooling after his parent had separated. He dropped out of school when his granny could no longer support him.

Katawere said, even though he is not wallowing in wealth he loves his job and he will be happy if any one takes up his acting character after his death.

The actor said his name Katawere is derived from a controversial god but said he is not controversial as in person.

Actor Ebenezer Yaw Donkor said he enjoys to sit back and watch his movies whenever he is idle and believes that he will be fabulously rich through acting if God gives him more life to live.
