Movie producers to go on “dumsor” demonstration

imagesThe Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) is planning to stage a massive demonstration against the government over the current energy crisis facing the country.

According to them, their businesses are collapsing due to the current power situation known in our local parlance as “dumsor-dumsor”.

Ghana has been experiencing serious challenges with its power supply for the past few years resulting in hardships on businesses and domestic consumers.

Between 440 and 650 Megawatts of power is shed during off-peak and peak periods due to supply shortfall, a situation which resulted from poor water level in three hydro-electric power stations – Akosombo, Bui and Kpong – as well as faulty equipment, lack of gas from the West Africa Gas Pipeline for thermal power production as well as lack of funds to buy light crude oil.

Speaking on Ashh fm entertainment zone in Kumasi last Sunday, Mr. Paul Agyei, the bankroller of Paul Gee Productions said the power situation has become a nightmare to Ghanaians.

He revealed that movie producers and marketers in Ghana are planning to stage a massive demonstration against the power situation.

“We are planning that but before that we will hold a press conference in Kumasi or Accra”.

Paul Gee who also doubles as a member of the Film Marketers said many of the indigenous film producers have already stopped shooting movies because of the situation.
