New Female Rapper Eno Here To Change The Game

80293182_994952Most people agree that the rap game is a tough, male-dominated terrain and perhaps not the place for ladies but everywhere, including Ghana, female rappers have also been standing up with their own hooks and catching attention with their flow.

A good deal rap talent is being exhibited on the scene here at the moment and the names that easily pop up include Eazzy, Tiffany, Lousika, Felly and most recently, Eno.

The vigour and brash attitude with which Eno, real name Ruth Nana Sewaa Nyame, has been tackling the game of late has triggered people asking if she is the next big thing here as far as female rappers are concerned.

With songs like What's My Name, Chain of Love, My Love and Commot For There in her repertoire, Eno is starting to make heads turn. Her most recent appearances were at the Ghana Music Week main concert at the Accra Sports Stadium last month and the GOtv Launch Street Party in Kumasi earlier this month.

Maybe the fascination with her stems from the fact that she is relatively new to rap music fans. Her stage routines with her posse of dancers, however, point to a determination to be as entertaining as possible to audiences.

A product of Kumasi Polytechnic, Eno is well-remembered by some of her for her love of football during her Senior High School days at Methodist Day Secondary.

The game uppermost on her mind these days is rap music and she runs and jumps on stage now instead of the playing field. Reports indicate that she is extremely cool at freestyle and also a bundle of energy on stage.

“The huge public interest in my style is what urges me on. I thank everyone who appreciate my talent and give an assurance that with me in the game, the relegation of females to the background in rap music in this country is over,” Eno is quoted to have said after the recent Kumasi show.

Her assertion appears to be in line with American rapper, Queen Latifah said sometime ago that: “We need more female rappers. We have to express the things that matter to us, the things that mean something to us, and we have to have that balance, male to female.”

The nominees in the Best Rapper of the Year category at the upcoming Vodafone Ghana Music Awards are only men: Sarkodie, EL, , M.anifest, Edem and .

With more and committed female rappers working hard to catch attention, one hopes future nominees lists would include females.
