Promote Ghanaian Music At Kotoka Airport-Sidiku

Former President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Alhaji Sidiku Buari, has called on the management of the Kotoka International Airport to use its facilities to promote Ghanaian highlife music.

Alhaji Buari, who is also an executive member of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce (CCM), noted that since the airport was a special point of contact for travellers either leaving or entering the country, there was the need to play Ghanaian music to create the awareness of the creative industry.

Speaking at an inaugural breakfast meeting organised by the Canadian Chamber of Mines (CCM) in Accra, Alhaji Sidiku Buari stressed, ‘If you travel to a country like Spain, right there at the airport, you feel you are in Spain just by hearing the indigenous music being played.’

The former MUSIGA president, who is also a former vice president of the International Federation of Musicians (FIM), declared that if highlife music was played at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) it would help in the promotion of Ghana’s rich creative industry to the outside world.

He noted that Ghana needed to imitate exemplary countries which showcased their musical identity on many platforms.

He also suggested that the ‘Azonto’, a popular freestyle Ghanaian dance, be infused into hiplife or highlife to retain its Ghanaian identity.

In a meeting with Doreen Owusu-Fianko, Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company Limited to discuss, among other things, how CCM could participate in the massive modernisation exercise being undertaken by KIA, Mrs. Owusu-Fianko pledged that management would carry out Alhaji Sidiku Buari’s suggestions to play wholesome Ghanaian music at the KIA.
