Who owns ‘I dey feel you die’, Yaa Pono or Dark Suburb Rock Band?

Yaa Pono is among the first artistes selected by DJ Rita Ray on the Global Beats documentary recordings in Accra, Ghana; a BBC Africa new monthly initiative music programme which was launched over the weekend.

‘I dey feel you die’ was a song perceived to be Yaa Pono’s intellectual property as the Rock rhythm he recorded the song with came as ‘shocker’ to BBC’s resident DJ Rita Ray as well as many Ghanaians.

Indeed DJ Rita Ray’s description for the Ghanaian music scene as a real renaissance of music which the Global Beats team want to be a part of earned its objective for this new initiative music programme as the masses tuned into BBC Africa on respective frequencies.

Although Global Beats is a new monthly initiative music programme, it received massive listenership to the point of controversy as a Ghanaian band called Dark Suburb; are accusing Yaa Pono of claiming ownership of their song, ‘I dey feel you die’.

Meanwhile, during the maiden exclusive session of Global Beats with Yaa Pono, DJ Rita Ray who termed him as one of the new breed of Hiplife artistes in Ghana asked reasons for the switch to a Rock rhythm with ‘I dey feel you die’ since he is well known for a different style of music.

In his answer to the question on the recorded audio interview, Yaa Pono said “it simply means I will love you till death separates us, like seeing lovers talk like there’s no end to their relationship.

My kind of music is everywhere; you have to relax as it comes to you. Most of my songs come like this, so rock because it came and I had to do it and when I recorded it, it was nice.”

Stating his reason for the Rock rhythm, he indicated that “I think the main reason why I did that track was because it is the only thing that could fit the love track because it is very strong; it explains love more than any beats.”

Why the love song? Yaa Pono affirmed that ‘Every gangster needs love too, everybody needs love and that is why I chose the Rock rhythm, it’s so simple to do a love song with a highlife beat which is simply known everywhere…”

Unfortunately, Ghanaian rock band, Dark Suburb disagrees with Yaa Pono who has hijacked all the glory with ‘their’ song, ‘I Dey Feel You Die” received on the Global Beats project on BBC Africa in a press release yesterday published on Enewsgh.com to claim ownership of the song. Attached the press release was a YouTube video which was in a perfect condition but as at this publication, the video has been tagged as a Private Video and this has risen suspicion as to who could have taken the video off YouTube.

GhanaWeb Entertainment went on to survey Dark Suburb’s website for more info about the Ghanaian Rock group but unfortunately there were just slide views of their brand images (Skeletons); no text nothing on their music section, video section, Gallery, Events, Biography, contact nor press on the Rock group’s website.

The question is; was it some sort of endeavor by Ghanaian Rock Group, Dark Suburb to share in Yaa Pono’s glory or there really is some truth in alleged song theft?
