4 deleted from earth in accident near Dawhenya
Four persons were killed and several others injured, some of them critically, in a gory accident on the Tema-Dawhenya road Friday.
The accident occurred around 1.00 p.m., when the driver of an Intercity STC Toyota Hiace minibus travelling from Aflao to Accra lost control and collided with an articulated truck in between the Central University College and the Top Oil fuel station near Miotso.
At the time of going to press, the injured were being treated in different hospitals, including the Tema General Hospital, 37 Military Hospital and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where they were rushed to.
The Prampram District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mr Paul Mensah Bampoe, said the accident happened when the STC minibus with registration number GM3970 -14 collided with the DAF truck with registration number GE 6386 X in the driver’s attempt to overtake another vehicle.
Mr Bampoe said four other vehicles ran into the accident cars resulting in multiple injuries.
He said initially two persons, a male and female, died on the spot, but two others died at the Tema General Hospital upon their arrival there.
He could not confirm the total number of persons involved in the accident, stressing that investigators had gone to the various facilities to conduct further checks.
The six vehicles are in the custody of the Dawenya police pending further investigations, while the various drivers have also been interrogated.
