MUSIGA is ineffective…..

imagesGhanaian artist and entertainer Denning Edem Hotor popularly known as Edem has lamented about the plight of the Ghanaian musician, MUSIGA’s ineffectiveness towards the creative arts and wage inequality in the sector.
He was interviewed on Happy FM’sHappy Party Mix with DJ Advisor and he explained that
“Nobody works in a company for free because there’s a flat rate; say 14 old Cedis a day for manual work or 20 old Cedis a day so you can use that as the standard to calculate. So let’s say if MUSIGA sets a flat rate that no musician should be paid below GHC 10,000 and they put that authority and it becomes a law that is implemented and then the government bodies implement it that anytime MUSIGA sets a rate that is where every promoter is.”
He also admonished promoters to exhibit diplomacy towards their clients in order to gain credibility.
“When MUSIGA sets the rates we will see the emergence of only professional promoters because that is where the problem is. Everybody who is a promoter outside Accra is NOT a professional. It’s a group of people who have some money and they think you have a brand name that they want to call to their neighborhood, organize, put you at a spot and make revenue.”
