4Syte TV Hip Hop Awards To Honor The Old Skull and Award New Acts

The maiden edition of the 4syte Hip-Hop Awards which was launched at the Silver Lounge in Accra last Wednesday June 6, 2012 will honor old Ghanaian Hip Hop ‘soldiers’ who started the whole Hip Hop movement in Ghana in the early 90s and award new Hip Hop acts putting Ghana on the world map presently.

CEO of 4Syte TV Mr. Ignace Hego disclosed this in an interview. According Ignace individuals whole have spent their time and energy to produce, promote or support Hip Hop in Ghana over the years such as Producers, DJ, Rappers, Hip Hop activists among others will all be duly acknowledged on the night to celebrate them and also let the upcoming rappers know them and learn from them.

Ignace revealed that since this will be the maiden edition it only be proper to pay homage to those believed in Hip Hop and held the forth for it to become what it is today. Even though the nominees are not out yet, he said about half of the 19 categories would be honorary whiles the rest remain competitive categories.

The awards ceremony which will be the first of its kind in Ghana is expected to come off in July this year at a venue which will be announced later. The will attended press launch was graced by notable industry players like; Producer Hammer of The Last Two who is also the spokesperson for the planning committee, Rappers Okyeame Kwame, Scientific, Richie, Jay Town, 4syte TV hosts Jay Foley and Jeremy and press men.

The awards will be a combination of both Ghana’s finest Hip hop talents and a cross-section of that of African Hip Hop artistes. Nominations would include Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Sierra Leone and Angola amongst others,” organizers noted.

4syte is well-recognized for rewarding winners with most creatively crafted award pieces. The first ever 4SYTE TV Hip hop Awards is aimed at celebrating Hip hop across the African continent with nominations in over 19 categories. The approach to nominations can be compared to that of the MAMA’s or the Channel O Music Video Awards among others.

The 4SYTE Hip hop Awards will also serve as a huge boost for our tourism industry drawing international attention to our music industry with the inclusion of the nominees across Africa.

This will also give a lot of up and coming underground Hip hop artistes the opportunity to exhibit themselves on a more authentic platform; 4SYTE TV to give them more exposure. According to organizers they believe that Hiplife evolved from Hip hop and aspire to use the award to leave an indelible market not only in Ghana but Africa’s Hip hop industry at large.

“Hiplife played a vital role in educating Ghanaians on the fundamentals of Hip hop. 4Syte will like to tip its hat off to Reggie Rockstone for pioneering the Hiplife movement. Legends like Reggie Rockstone, NFL, and Talking Drums, all Hip Hop Producers, DJs and Radio Presenter, Hip hop activist who paved the way towards making Hiphop acceptable to the Ghanaian culture”, organizers stated.
