Moving towards Driverless cars – Tesla
The much anticipated driverless car is closer than imagined. Tesla motors unveiled version 7.0 software that may assist drivers find parking spots, change lanes, speed control and watching for blind spots. The autopilot system is designed to ease drivers in tiresome driving circumstances and possibly hazardous conditions. Africa, watch out for the pothole sensors.
The system is equipped in 60000 Tesla Model S vehicles worldwide, a steady introduction of driverless technology, forward radar, forward looking camera, 12-long range ultrasonic sensor to sense 16feet around the vehicle all directions at all speed, a high precision, and digitally controlled electric-assist braking system. A significant jump to the semi-autonomous systems in vehicles by Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo.
“It’s not a gimmick; Tesla, as well as the entire automotive industry is working towards autonomous vehicles,” said Jim McGregor, principal analyst at Tirias Research. Audi and Mercedes both demonstrated autonomous vehicles at CES, and everyone has been talking and working on them.” He told TechNewsWorld.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk once suggested that one day it might be illegal to drive a car.
