A J Nelson – Tha BA Emcee
Born Agyei Nelson Yaw some years back in Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana, A J Nelson is currently the only rapper who fuses the Bono language with Ashanti Twi in his songs.
The rapper is also known as the BA Emcee because of his Brong Ahafo-like unique style and background. He was thus given the title BA Emcee because he represented the people of Brong Ahafo on the Ghanaian rap scene.
His introduction onto the music scene was in 2011 when he featured on a welcome song for the 44th president of the United States of America, Barack Obama, when he visited Ghana.
Taking up on his interest in music and rapping talent, he proceeded to release his debut single, “Same Girl” in September 2010 which featured Quabena Maphia. The song enjoyed popularity and taking cue, he released second single titled “Pain” subsequently in 2011.
A J Nelson is to release his full album later this year and from what I've heard the album is set to be a cracker as it features artistes like Jay Ghartey, Quabena Maphia, Kesse, Kodi, Stone of Bradez fame, Okyeame Kwame and Jay Smalls. He recently released his third single, “Faith” featuring Jay Ghartey.
A J Nelson is presently studying a diploma in Web & Graphic design at IPMC College of technology in Accra, says he is inspired by his surroundings and what he sees. He believes Hip-hop is a way of life and is the path he has chosen to lead.
