Accra floods: You don’t have to wait for people do die to show you care – Becca

imagesGhanaian songstress and actress Rebecca Akosua Acheampong known in showbiz as Becca has expressed worry over the seeming ineptitude by officials in addressing the perennial floods that constantly cause havoc in the country.

The songstress who spoke to Ibrahim Ben-Bako on Hitz Entertainment News on the fire disaster that killed over 100 people on Wednesday said these tragedies have become an annual ritual and people in authority are doing little or nothing to salvage the situation.

“People die every year during this time, people’s houses get flooded and people die and I’m surprised that up till now this is still happening” she said.

With some relatives still desperately searching for their loved ones, Becca who couldn’t hold back her tears, sent her condolences to the bereaved families and hinted that she and a few other celebrity friends are putting things in place to supports the families of those who lost their lives in the fire.

“It’s time for you to do the right thing, it’s time to put things in place. You don’t have to wait for people to die every year before you come out to show you care, that is not showing you care,” Becca added.

Asked if she was also hit by the rain, she said, she attended an event and had to stay in town till 2 am because she received a call warning her not to bother coming home.

Becca said, “It didn’t hit my house but the road to my house and the fact that it didn’t hit my house doesn’t mean it didn’t hit me.”

More than 100 people were killed Wednesday night in a fire and flood incident at a filling station close to the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, as they sought shelter from heavy rains.
