Accra Police opens new Cafeteria for Personnel

The Accra Regional Police Command has opened an up-to-the-minute cafeteria to provide healthy food for its personnel. In a short ceremony to commission the 50-sitting capacity canteen, the Director-General in charge of Police Welfare, COP/Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, in her opening remarks, noted that the opening of the cafeteria was timely as the nutritious meals would help officers to boost their immune system to enable them to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

COP Addo-Danquah said, the early-hour duties mostly prevented officers from eating from homes, as such, providing a decent and balanced diet for personnel will enable them discharge their duties soundly and effectively.
She opined that the cafeteria would be operated by the Police and assured that meals would be prepared under strict hygienic conditions at a subsidized price to officers and even the public.

DCOP Frederick Adu Anim, the outgoing Accra Regional Commander, under whose tenure the project was initiated and completed said the cafeteria had a bar, a kitchen (cooking area), washrooms, changing-over apartment and storage room. DCOP Adu Anim, said the absence of a cafeteria always compelled personnel especially those on standby duties to go outside the confines of the Regional Headquarters in search of food. This, he said consumes precious time of personnel which should have been channeled towards work. “Even with this, the choice of food available is often unwholesome, expensive and inconvenient” he added.

In a similar development, the Command also commissioned cells for the Criminal Investigation Department for the expeditious handling of cases. DCOP Adu Anim said the Regional Crime Unit did not have a holding centre for years and that suspects had to be transported from the Regional Headquarters to nearby districts for “detention and collection” during investigations, which created congestion and delayed cases.

The facility, which had a charge office, an office for the Supervising Officer, male and female cells, and a staff hall was financed by KAS Estates.
