Adventures Of Taking A Ride In A Trosky

imagesIn Ghana when you’re bored and have time to spare just sit in a trosky and experience some fun. Higher percentage of Ghanians pick trosky to and fro for their daily transactions and sometimes transportation of their goods as well. Trosky is the local commercial vehicles popularly known as “Trotro”
Most people do sit in a trosky most of the time so their used to this and don’t find much amusement in it. On a normal day when you pick a trosky there is always an issue to be argued about that will catch your interest. This is very common when the drive takes more than 30 minutes to the destination.
When the car is loading some people stand back waiting for the backseat to be filled so they sit close to the exit. When the driver moves from the station the car is over quiet if not for a baby crying or two annoying people who sits far from each other and yet want to chat with their voices raised. All of a sudden the mates gets up and shouts “yes front” he starts taking the fare and if you’re sitting close to them you might have to position you head somewhere else. Most times the smell is very bad and they don’t care as they keep stretching their hands to take the fare. Others also take it upon themselves to tell the driver how he should drive and shorter routes to use. If the driver refuses to go by their instructions then they get agitate and start to tell the driver how many experiences they have. When the driver is driving recklessly the passengers become united and start admonishing the driver until he heeds to their advice. There are those who also sleep throughout the ride and get startled when the car hits a bump or comes to an abrupt stop.
During the ride is the time when people have the chance to talk about other people who are not in the vehicle with their friends. There you have very good story tellers making instant friends in the car telling them a story which can last till the end of the ride. The most prevalent among these rides is when the mate and a passenger don’t agree on the fare. The petrol prices in Ghana usually go up and affects transport fares but when the prices go down there’s no reduction in fares. During times like this you get a few people sticking to the old fare and threatening to fight the mate.
Another interesting aspect is when someone is to alight at a junction and the drier takes the person to another place, you can imagine the look on the persons face muttering curses for the inconvenience. When it’s time for people to alight then it’s the fun part. The bus stops sound funny and sometimes makes you wonder why it’s called that. “mate I will I alight at……….maye hot, NDC, shalom spot, eduanase, mangoase, curve, court, asylum, lotto kiosk, blue container, freedom, sika, koowa na soo, pillar2, ebusua, Washington,Russia, borkina, Congo junction, Belarus, agbliezaa, 18 junction, Vivian farm, and many others that will amuse you.
