Arguably, Africans do not subscribe to booking appointments with therapists to cure “depression”. To them, their depressed life is simply attributable to dry pockets. With some people arguing that Africans should be having personal therapists to sort themselves out in times of difficulties, others think they simply need economic empowerment to feel normal rather than having the notion that they need other stuff.
Nigerian feminist, Nkechi Bianze has made her thoughts known on the matter and she simply subscribes to financial therapy as opposed to verbal ones.
***Counseling is good. Therapy is good.
What most Nigerians need to solve their problems and/or cure their depression is MONEY!
If we could eliminate poverty in Nigeria, we would be curing 80% of depressed Nigerians of their depression.
Then 10% need to learn the art and act of self-love and not giving a fuck to be cured of their depression.
Only less than 10% are depressed as a result of mental illness.
I didn’t conduct any academic study to get this statistics. I deduced this from the hundreds of depressed Nigerians that have confided on me.
