The Auditor-General of the Republic of Ghana, Mr. Daniel Yaw Domelevo’s recent accumulated leave saga has sparked varied discussions with some supporting the move from the Presidency whilst others are greatly opposed to it. The issue became more intense when the AG was allegedly locked out of office some few weeks ago.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer and immediate past President, John Dramani Mahama (JDM) says President Akufo-Addo’s decision to ask the Auditor General to go on leave threatens the independence of the Auditor General’s office as well as other independent offices of the state.
“If the president can ask the Auditor General to go on leave, it means he can ask the Chief Justice to go on leave, he can ask the Electoral Commissioner to go on leave, he can ask the CHRAJ Director to go on leave, but these are supposed to be independent institutions”, JDM added.
