Anny Osabutey Leaves Joy FM

photosOne of Joy FM’s most prized assets, Anny Osabutey, is leaving the station according enewsgh.com.

Osabutey, a 2012 CNN African Journalist of the Year award winner is headed to the prestigious Ivy League school of higher learning, Columbia University, this website can additionally report.

He is headed to Columbia’s Graduate School in Journalism to study for an M.A, we can add.

Station sources wouldn’t say when he exits but enewsgh.com can say he has tendered in his leave request, which should take effect from July 1.

A successful journalist, his ‘Squatters Paradise’ documentary won the radio category of the Multichoice-sponsored African Journalist of the Year award three years ago.

He’s worked on freelance projects with the BBC especially for their hugely popular investigative television production, Panorama. He’s also contributed to the Beep’s African Service. He has been interviewed extensively on respected international networks, the recent being a BBC interview on his letter to the British queen, asking her to come and take over Ghana again.

He is producer for the AccraNkomo podcast, which talks about almost everything and anything with residents of Accra or those just visiting. Osabutey has contributed to a number of high profile publications including the Washington Post, and the Swedish magazine Omvarldern.

A talented young journalist, he is host of Joy FM’s Saturday morning show Weekend City Show.

A BA in English and Sociology holder from the University of Cape Coast (2005), he worked with the Daily Express, Business & Financial Times and the Business Times, as Editor and Senior Reporter respectively. He also worked with the now-defunct Jive entertainment newspaper.

Osabutey joined Joy FM in 2011.
