Banning Nigerian Songs in Ghana Won’t Make Ghanaian Acts Go International
I am struggling to establish the nexus between our MAMA nominees not winning any awards and the call on Ghanaian presenters/DJs to stop playing Nigerian music.
Why should we stop playing Nigerian music? Why should we rather not stop playing foreign music in general? I hope that would give us international recognition anaa?
It is a ‘treasonable offence’ to logical reasoning that if we stop playing Nigerian music in Ghana, Ghanaians would gain more international exposure. Is it the playing of their songs here that is preventing OUR SONGS from getting out there? Hohoho!
You want to be recognized in countries other than yours and you want to ban their songs? So what if your songs are also banned by other countries? Even if Ghanaian music receives a 100% play by DJs in Ghana and the songs don’t travel outside the country, how do you get internationally recognized so you probably win your MAMAs?
We live in a globalized world where no man is an island. We can fashion out policies to make things go lopsided in our favour but we can’t completely cut off foreign stuff.
Instead, let our artistes learn better ways of marketing their brands across other countries so they can be internationally recognized.
