Blakk Rasta, Others Rock Mantse Agbonaa

240x_mg_dhxk0on007_blakk_rastaAdowa Reggie exponent of Blakk Rasta last week mesmerized a huge crowd at Mantse Agbonaa Park in Accra with a series of hits from his Moonsplash reggae repertoire.

Rasta, who was performing at the closing ceremony of Celebrating Accra Festival, entertained the crowd, which included Mayor of Accra Dr. Alfred Vanderpuije, with a magnetic stage presence that drew loud cheers.

Backed by the Herbalist Band, Rasta surprised the audience with pure reggae that has been noticeably fused with traditional Ghanaian rhythms and beats thereby producing a new synthesis.

Moved by the music emanating from the stage, Mayor Vanderpuije moved to the stage and took over the drums and jammed with the group after a brief address on the achievements of Accra as a city.

Earlier, Adesa Taloi, Patch Bay Band, Vibration Kings, Commander Messiah and Screwface took turns to delight the crowd with evergreen highlife tunes, hiplife, azonto, reggae and traditional music.

Screwface engaged the young members of the audience as they joined in his performance by singing along and following his infectious dance movements compelling him to ask jovially whether they wrote the lyrics.

Institute for Music and Development, ArtHaus, AccraCAN, CNC Accra, GAW, Historical Society of Ghana, National Theatre, Archi Afric, Artists Alliance Gallery, MUSIGA and Arterial Network Ghana organized the festival.

Agenda 21 of Spain, Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Goethe-Institut, Club Beer, Cowbell and CITI FM provided support for ‘Celebrating Accra’.
