Bob Marley documentary set for release fall of 2011
A documentary and biopic on the life of reggae star and legend Bob Marley is set for release in the fourth quarter of 2011 during the 30th anniversary of his death.
According to Black Entertainment Television (BET), the documentary and biopic is titled Marley and is being directored by renowned Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald.
Macdonald is widely known for directing Oscar winning One Day In September and Touching the Void.
It was widely reported that film and music star, Jamie Foxx had the role of Bob Marley in the documentary but the role was later denied.
A few actors who have now been tipped as perfect casts for Marley include Jeffrey Wright, Michael Ealy and Idris Elba.
The production of the documentary went through several changes including the change of the first director for the production Jonathan Demme and a subsequent acquisition of rights of the documentary and biopic.
Marley was put together by Chris Blackwell and Steve Bing and it is a co-production between Tuff Gong Pictures and Shangri-La Entertainment.
There are unconfirmed reports that the documentary has received full cooperation of Marley’s family.
