Breaking News: Water Starts Flowing At Adenta

President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, 23rd December, 2014 opened the valves at the Kpong Water Supply Expansion project for 20 million gallons of water to flow to a number of communities in parts of the Greater Accra and Eastern regions.

In the Eastern Region, towns that will benefit from the project include Somanya, Krobo Odumase, towns on the Akuapem Ridge and Atimpoku.

In the Greater Accra Region, Adenta, Ashongman, Nii Boi Town, Ashaley Botwe, East Legon, Haatso, Dodowa and Dome will enjoy clean water from the project.

Prior to this, the Water Resources, Works and Housing Minister, Alhaji Collins Dauda, said in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on PEACE FM that residents of Adenta and its environs would from have their taps running with water for Christmas.

According to him, the water will not only flow during the festive season but it will be ‘forever’

When PEACE FM correspondent Akwesi Agyeman went to some parts of Adenta and its environs on Wednesday, some of the residents confirmed that the water has indeed started flowing.

“When I opened the pipe this morning and realized that the water is flowing, I was really surprised. It’s been ages since we experienced this…” one resident said.

Speaking to the issue in an interview on PEACE FM morning show ‘kokrokoo’ on Wednesday, Alhaji Collins Dauda, reiterated that the water is not just going to flow for this festive season but “will go on unless there is a fault”.

He said “if water is not flowing in a particular household then it means they don’t have pipe”

The Minister also indicated that by March 2015, some parts of Tema and Accra who are still having difficulty with water will be relieved.
“Water is life and so President Mahama is doing everything in his power to ensure that Ghanaians get access to water,” he added.
