Burundi has held its presidential election with 42 cases of COVID-19.

Coronavirus has become the invisible enemy threatening the safety of the world at large. This Novel Coronavirus is making socio-economic activities quite difficult in the current dispensation.

More than five million people went into the poll as it marked Burundi’s first peaceful transfer of power since its independence in 1962.

Polling stations opened at 6:00am and closed at 4:00pm local time yesterday. Provincial results are however expected by May 26 and official results by June 4.

Seven candidates stood to succeed President Pierre Nkurunziza, who has stepped down after 15 years in power.

So far, Burundi’s active cases of COVID -19 are 21 with 20 recoveries and one mortality.
