Can We Ever Have Our Old Natural Habitat Again?

Growing up in my village at Denkyira Diaso was full of fun because of everything natural around us. Even though I was a bit tender and may not vividly memorize the feeling in a more detailed manner, I can still recall the ventilation of our compound because of how it was strategically situated in between cocoa farms, plantain farms and not that very far from the nearby river (I’ve even forgotten its name)!

The feeling of climbing trees to have a taste of ripped mangoes and pawpaw whilst waiting for the evening meal was just fascinating. The best feeling ever was when our mum had to rely on us to chase the only cock on the compound for the unforgettable “chicken soup last supper”. The stumbling and falling and hurts were relegated to the background of our medulla oblongata because it was our onus as the male kids!

Now, can the above be experienced in our various homes in 2020? What even annoys me most is the honking, noisily arena and other chaotic scenes that we experience on our to work, town or simply put – movements.

The warm weather in our world now even with the presence of ceiling fans, wall fans, standing fans and all manner fans goes a long way to create a necessary comparison with that of our old natural village in our mind’s eye.

The scorching sun of late is just another proof that our old natural way is gone forever. Forget about the air conditioners because in this hottest Ghanaian weather, you will still sweat in it.

I just want to humbly ask if we can in any way have our natural habitat again.
