A piano virtuoso, Straker has carved a niche for himself in Canada and beyond with numerous concerts that simply leave audiences asking for more. Indeed, between 2007 and 2011, he performed over 100 live shows per year.
Straker, whose album ‘ Step Right Up' sold over five thousand copies, performed a concert of original music with the Regina Symphony Orchestra, as well as collaborated with the Orchestra's Chamber Players, resulting in a nine show tour – a first for an indie artist in the city of Saskatchewan.
He has shared stages with a wide range of artistes including Buffy Sainte Marie, The Village people, Dan Mangan, Elliot Brood and Melissa Ferrick. He also opened for British Superstar Mel C in the Canadian capital, Toronto, to an enthusiastic audience of 10,000.
Straker has performed at CMW, WCMAs, Ness Creek Festival, JunoFest as well as every major Pride festival across Canada. In 2010/11, festival invites poured in from Gateway Festival (Bengough), Sask Festival of Words, Headliner Act (Moose Jaw), Grande Cache Festival (AB), Regina Folk Festival and Ness Creek.
The music star has been invited to showcase at Canadian Music Week, NXNE and the Western Canadian Music Awards. His songwriting has seen him become one of the national top 10 finalists in the Canadian radio star songwriting competition and top 20 finalists in the global 2009 Unisong competition.
In addition to launching his new album in 2011, Straker debuted at the National Arts Centre in the city of Ottawa and performed with R&B diva Jully Black. He also recorded new songs on Glenn Gould's grand piano at the CBC studios in Toronto, with Danny Michel as producer.
