Cocaine saga: Mahama’s justification

John Mahama fugu

The President of Policy Think Tank IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe has described as “laughable” President John Mahama’s justification of the BNI’s invitation of two top media managers over publications by their media houses concerning a Ghanaian lady busted in London for drug trafficking.

According him, the President in his comments on the matter failed to address some of most critical issues that have been raised since the arrest of Nayele Ametefe last week.

Citi FM boss, Samuel Atta Mensah and Editor of state-owned Daily Graphic, Ransford Tetteh, were on Monday invited and questioned by the BNI for their publication which claimed the lady suspect travelled on a diplomatic passport.

President Mahama has said the invitation was justifiable and necessary in bringing conclusion to the controversies surrounding the arrest of the Ghanaian lady at Heathrow Airport.

Speaking on the Starr Midday News, Thursday, the IMANI boss, however, said: “The President’s explanation is even more laughable.”

“First of all, he doesn’t tell us why the lady had to use the VVIP. If she didn’t have a diplomatic passport what business did she have using the VVIP, and the British Authorities have confirmed that she used the VVIP”.

He said the President must explain to Ghanaians how the drugs “were delivered to the suspect on the plane” at the Kotoka International Airport.

“The drugs were sent to her [on the plane], that’s what should occupy anybody’s mind not what the BNI did. What the BNI did was obviously shameful,” he fumed.
