Conduct NPP primaries on WhatsApp – Ahaji Irbard Ibrahim advises EC

A security expert and founder of IRBARD Security Consult, Alhaji Irbard Ibrahim ha advised the New Patriotic Paty and the Electoral Commission to conduct the upcoming primaries to elect some parliamentary candidates nad flag bearer on WhatsApp.

Irbard believes this would ensure that the delegates obey the social distancing directive by the president.

“Constituency delegates hardly go beyond 1,000. It means the numbers are manageable and basic technology can be used.

There is a WhatsApp-enabled phone in virtually every home. The EC can have a dedicated number for every constituency. Just take a video of your face and party ID card and verbally state the name of your preferred candidate. The EC can then tally verbal votes on the other end and declare winners.

Since this is an all-family affair for the people who belong to that party, I suppose there is goodwill to make such a basic process go on without any rancour. The downside is that how each delegate votes will be known to the candidates.

Gathering at a spacious park with proper social distancing is an option but electronic voting will set a good example for enforcement of social distancing.” he wrote on his Facebook page this morning.

The primaries was scheduled on the 25th of this month before the coronavirus outbreak.
