CPP re-elected Greenstreet as Flag bearer
In what would be described as a historic outcome the CPP National Delegates Congress has retained Lawyer Ivor Kobina Greenstreet as Flagbearer for the Party for the 2020 General Elections. This is the first time the Party has taken such a decision since the inception of the Fourth republic. Greenstreet was first elected in January 2016 to lead the last General Elections.
The Congress was held last Saturday 22nd August, 2020 in 16 regional venues across the country. Each venue had to undertake a referendum to determined whether the election of National Officers and the Flagbearer could be done concurrently on the same day. About 98% of the over 2,500 delegates voted for the motion in support of the decision by the Congress Committee. This was necessary to amend the Party’s constitution to allow the Congress.
Twenty (20) candidates together contested for positions for the National Officers and Flagbearer. At the end of counting and collection the delegates elected the following Officers into National Leadership;
National Chairperson/Leader – Nana Akosua Frimponmaa Kumankuma
General Secretary – Nana Yaa Jantuah
1st National Vice Chair – Onsy Nkrumah
2nd National Vice Chair – Emmanuel Kwao Ogborjor
3rd National Vice Chair – JB Daniels
National Treasurer – Emmanuel Opare Addo
National Organizer – Moses Yirimambo Ambing
National Women Organizer – Hajia Aisha Futa Gyampoh
National Youth Organizer – Osei Kofi Acquah
The Council of Elders of the Party, the Interim Oversight Committee (IOC) and the Congress Committee will inaugurate the new National Leadership after a swearing in ceremony and handing over this week for them to quickly take over the affairs of the Party.
The Party is yet to constitute its Manifesto Committee as well as National Campaign Taskforce for the 2020 General Elections. Another important exercise would be the selection of a running mate for Lawyer GREENSTREET ahead of the 2020 General Elections.
- Full details of the Congress election results will be published on Wednesday.
