Daasebre Oti Boateng still growing strong

The Omanhene of New Juaben, Daasebre (Prof Emeritus) Oti Boateng, has asked all his well-wishers to disregard rumours about his state of health.

“I am very fit as a fiddle by the grace of God,” he told the Daily Graphic in a telephone conversation from London.

According to him, he had heard all the negative things said about his health by his detractors but assured the people that he would return to Ghana soon.

Daasebre Oti Boateng also thanked the people who were solidly behind him as overlord of New Juaben and said he would continue to share their aspiration.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Government of Ghana and the African Union for supporting his re-election bid as a member of the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) of the United Nations for a four-year term beginning on January 1, 2015.

The Fifth Committee of the United Nations, at its formal meeting in New York on November 7, 2014, declared Daasebre Oti Boateng elected by acclamation and recommended to the General Assembly his re-appointment to the Commission for the ensuing four-year term.

The ICSC was established by the General Assembly for the regulation and co-ordination of the conditions of service of the United Nations Common System.  Under its statute, the Commission consists of 15 members appointed by the General Assembly “in their personal capacity as individuals of recognised competence who have had substantial experience of executive responsibility in public administration or related fields, particularly in personnel management”.

Daasebre Oti Boateng, a former Government Statistician of Ghana (1982-2000) and former Chairman of both UN Statistical Commission (1987) and the International Conference of Labour Statisticians (1993), has been a member of the ICSC since 2003 and has made significant contributions to its deliberations.

The Fifth Committee also declared Mr Kingston Papie Rhodes of Sierra Leone, the current chairman of ICSC and the other African candidate, elected by acclamation. He was also recommended for appointment by the current General Assembly.

According to the Permanent Mission of Ghana to the United Nations, Daasebre’s continued membership of the Commission would go a long way to strengthen its mandate.

Daasebre Oti Boateng has currently developed an Integrated Communal Development Model dubbed r-BED, a landmark quest to lead a global initiative and advocacy for the adoption of a home-grown economic development model for Ghana, Africa and the developing world. This innovative model has recently received the approbation of the Chairman and participants of the 59th Session of the ICSC conference held in Rome in July and August, 2014.
