Did King Sark Save The Rap Game When Hope Was Lost?



My love for rap is unmatched and on any day, anytime, I’ll root for the rap genre over any other musical genre such as gospel, reggae, afrobeat, dancehall, highlife, and others.

Mention all the names of the rappers who have blessed the microphones in Ghana before such as Reggie Rockstone, Lord Kenya, Obrafour, Edem, Kwaw Kese, and others without adding Sarkodie and it’ll taste like porridge without sugar!

Yes, others had equally contributed their quota but when Michael Owusu Addo aka Sarkodie is mentioned, the international exploits he has chalked such as the BET nomination and subsequent victory, Tim Westwood’s regular pundit and other notable avenues have singled him out of his peers.


Personally, I cherish M.anifest’s rap skills a lot because of his use of the Queen’s language but Sarkodie’s use of the local dialect tips him a bit ahead of all the other rappers.

Sark is indeed a household name with what he has been able to achieve with his awards from the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). That no one can take away from him because he rose to the occasion when rap had become a bit boring and ‘one way’.

All the same, his rap exploits speak for him wherever he finds himself. So far so good, he has been the man to get all the hypes in the rap game. From 2010 to date, Sark has consistently raised the rap bar and it’s just amazing to watch him spit into any mic!
