‘Do comedy in English if you want to go International’

Ghana’s finest comedian DKB, who recently was crowned as the ‘King of Comedy’ in Ghana by KSM has urged upcoming comedians to have command over the English language.

Speaking on AM Pluzz with Sammy Flex, he said, as early as 2010 – 2011, he was doing the Citizen Comedy show, when Anita Erskine of Viasat 1 recommended him to MNET Comedy Club in South Africa giving him the opportunity to perform in Kampala, a city in Uganda.

He added that he was able to wow the audience because of his command over the English language.

According to FlexGH.com, DKB therefore urged rising comedians to do more of the English language than vernacular for international reasons, so they can perform in any other countries and on grand stages in their carrier.

“The comedy should be in English, with vernacular punch lines which will make it very easy to convert to the English language on the international platform.

If it’s mainly vernacular and you’re given the chance to perform internationally, then you have to convert the whole manuscript into English which at times create difficulties in the formation of tenses making the audience not to enjoy the show,” he explained.

He further went on to empower up and coming comedians to keep focus and concentrate on what they want to do when it comes to comedy, with hard work and practice they will surely see the light at the end of the tunnel.
