Don’t choose any incompetent and corrupt running mate -NDC’s Dela Coffie warns Mahama

Member of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Dela Coffie has warned the flag bearer of the party, John Dramani Mahama to exercise due diligence in choosing his running mate.
Read his opinion below:
Okay, it’s crunch time for the NDC – NEC meets this morning to deliberate on Mahama’s choice for a running mate. This is after a similar meeting with the party founder -JJR, and the Council of Elders over the weekend.
Well, JM got the selection of the campaign team right. But largely, nothing seems to have changed around the candidate. The NDC has to dig itself out. We are at a time and moment that requires profound and far-reaching new thinking and new ways of doing things.
Any chance of mounting a respectable election campaign in the forthcoming electioneering season will necessitate a running mate with national appeal.
It must be somebody who can attract floating voters. Somebody who cannot be tagged with corruption, incompetent and so forth and so on.
The would-be veep must necessarily be someone who can lead and elevates the conversation and also engage in the contest of ideas in the open marketplace.
The person must be someone with the ability to transcend generational, and partisan divisions, someone with thoughtful approach to weighty issues and message of bipartisanship – Someone capable of outclassing Dr. Bawumia on the political stage – Someone with a reputation, experience, earthy charm, improvisation and style – Someone who brings political savvy and fighting qualities to the ticket-it must be a pick widely lauded.
Available data from the Electoral Commission shows the NDC has over the last two general elections performed below average. 50.7% in 2012 and 44.4% in 2016, with almost one million vote deficit. This is certainly not good news and the narrative ought to change.
If Mahama goes ahead and get it right with the running mate, my views about him will change greatly.
Let’s see how it pans out.
