Drivers Association Says They’re Disappointed In John Mahama For Promising To Legalize Okada.
For now, the dominant topics prior to the Dec 7 General Election are the ‘Infrastructure Debate’ and ‘Okada Legalization’. These topics were all initiated by Former President John Dramani Mahama (JDM). Whilst the debate has stalled because of the silence of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his cohorts, the Okada legalization has taken over the media landscape with different factions opposing or applauding the initiative.
The Ghana Committed Drivers Association (GCDA) has expressed total disappointment in former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama for promising to legalize and regulate the operation of motorbikes, popularly known as Okada, should he win the December 7 polls. The drivers consider the legalization of motorbikes for commercial purpose contradictory to the Road Traffic Regulation 2012 and Legislative Instrument (LI) 2180, which ban commercialization of motorbikes in Ghana.

Even though the Drivers Association’s point is clear, the National Democratic Congress is yet to respond. There are other vociferous social commentators like Kwame A Plus and Manasseh Azure who are also following the argument keenly.
