Dumor returns to Africa on BBC

On June 18, the boss player, Komla Dumor will make a fascinating return to Africa by hosting a sizzling, thoroughly engaging new programme on TV, BBC Focus on Africa.

Africa and the world will now watch the breathtaking and equally heart breaking events of Africa live on TV as they have done listening to radio.

Dumor told Joy FM’s Drive Time host Bola Ray on Tuesday, the show will build on the exciting presentation of BBC Focus on Africa radio which has for years been the reference point on issues relating to Africa on BBC.

He was speaking shortly after the launch of the programme in Accra, with subsequent ones expected to take place in Johannesburg South Africa and Nairobi Kenya in the coming days.

Whilst conceding that the TV version of the Focus on Africa programme will deal exclusively with issues about Africa, like it is with radio, he was quick to point out the TV version will provide a more nuanced presentation with exciting live pictures of africa’s stories told from the African perspective.

The boss player said the show will provide both “context and balance” in every fascinating way possible.

For a new programme on BBC TV, it must take an obviously extraordinary personality to drive it to success and Komla Dumor is not unaware of challenges at hand.

If he could surmount the fear of not being on TV before to host Prime Time news on BBC which is European bias and heavy on business, there is nothing in journalism too difficult to do by the former host of Joy FM Super Morning Show.

In a little over five years, Dumor has made an exciting journey in the BBC beginning with the hosting of Network Africa, elevated to the World Service where he hosted the World Today and then broke into TV by hosting the Africa Business Report.

He served listeners with rich African content; dazzled viewers with the Prime time European morning news which is business heavy and European biased and makes a return to African content with the BBC Focus on Africa TV which airs on June 18.
