Dumsor vigil: On-The-Run turns away Yvonne Nelson, et al

imagesTotal Ghana, owners of On-The-Run, said their premises cannot be used for the much publicised ‘Dumsor Vigil’ being organised by Ghanaian celebrities to protest the worsening power crisis.

Three popular Ghanaian screen icons – Yvonne Nelson, Sarkodie and Lydia Forson – are championing the vigil to put pressure on the John Mahama-led administration to solve the erratic supply of electricity which has lingered on for close to three years.

The vigil was originally scheduled for the University of Ghana stadium, but authorities of the premier tertiary education facility distanced themselves from it.

In less than 24 hours after announcing that the watchnight service will take place at On-The-Run at Legon in Accra, managers of the venue have turned away the organisers.

“Please note that our Company, Total Petroleum Ghana Limited, which is the owner of the said location, has not been contacted for any such programme and would therefore request the general public to disregard the announcements running on various media,” Olivier Van Parys, managing director of Total Petroleum Ghana Limited, said in a statement.

The vigil dubbed #dumsormuststop is expected to come off May 16.

Ghanaian celebrities to lead the #DumsorMustStop vigil are Yvonne Nelson, Sarkodie, Lydia Forosn, DKB, Ama K Abebrese, Eddie Watson, D-Black, Nikki Samonas and many others.
