‘Ebola-free Africa’ concert to rock Accra soon

Eventstreet Africa, a wholly Ghanaian-owned events and promotions company, is set to organise the maiden international concert on Ebola dubbed: ‘Ebola-free Africa’ with the aim of trumpeting to the rest of the world the need for both international and African countries to battle this pandemic which is fast gaining roots in the world.

The concert would also be used to raise funds to purchase protective gears to be distributed to both Ghanaians and non-citizens especially at the border towns, as well as take the education to individual homes and communities in all the 10 regions in Ghana.

This would be a year-long campaign commencing this November. One of the major highlights of this campaign is a concert which would unite Africa and the rest of the world to effectively fight this cause. The concert would be headlined by African and international artistes.

The Chief Executive Officer of Eventstreet Africa, Emma Mantey, reiterated the need to take the awareness of the deadly disease to all and sundry, hence, the use of music and art as a means to promote awareness.

“We have to bear in mind that Ebola is perceived as an ‘African’ disease. Africans both home and abroad, as well as the international community must come together to help contain and eventually eliminate this deadly disease.

“At Eventstreet Africa, we believe the message about Ebola can be best communicated through music, hence our decision to stage an international concert. Yes it started in Africa, but every nation on earth is at risk, and the comity of nations must either sink or swim together.”

Activities leading to this yearlong campaign include selection of an ambassador who will be the bearer of the ‘Torch of Hope’.

The ambassador would visit the ambassadors and high commissioners of various countries of Africa and the rest of the world represented in Ghana to pledge their support to the fight against Ebola, a memorial wreath laying ceremony to remember souls lost to this disease and an International football match.

Mrs Mantey called on embassies, corporate bodies and the general public to fully participate in this event as every voice counts.
