EC acted legally in publishing our data on its website
Mabel Aku Baneseh writes;
I’ve been doing some research since last night after I noticed the EC had indeed published parts of our data on the electoral roll on its website.
A lawyer friend sent me some information and I reproduce below.
Regulation 27(3) CI 91 as amended by CI 126 says that after the register has been certified it shall be published in a manner determined by the Commission.
Regulation 32 says when any matter is required in these regulations to be published, it shall in addition to publication in the Gazette, be published on radio, TV, in the national newspaper or any other medium of mass communication.
Any other medium of mass communication in my humble opinion definitely includes the EC’s website.
So, in short, the EC acted in accordance with the law.
On a lighter note, we must be grateful to the EC for not adding our addresses and phone numbers to the information on its website.
