Ekow Micah Admitted To Smoking Wee – Prosecutor

imagesA prosecution witness testifying in the case involving Ekow Micah, a musician, Thursday told the Accra Circuit Court that the accused had told the police in his caution statement that he smoked Indian hemp to “ginger his career”.

Detective Corporal Evans Adu told the court that when the accused was arrested and taken to his house at Ogbojo, near Krokobitey in Accra, on August 4, 2015, he claimed ownership of the substance suspected to Indian hemp.

“When the police retrieved a black polythene bag in a bag and I questioned the accused, he intimated to the police that he used the substance to ginger him in his music career,” he told the court.

The police investigator is the first of the three prosecution witnesses to testify in the case in which Micah is alleged to have possessed a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

He has been charged with possessing narcotic drugs and he has pleaded not guilty.

The appearance of Detective Cpl Adu followed a warning by the Circuit Court at its sitting on Wednesday that the failure of the prosecution to produce prosecution witnesses to give their testimonies would compel the court to “take any decision”.

The warning by the court, presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh, came on the heels of the failure by the prosecution to produce witnesses in court to testify on two sittings on August 24 and 26, 2015.

Led in evidence by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Moses Atibilla at yesterday’s sitting, Detective Cpl Adu said he was stationed at the Airport Police Station and only got to know the accused on his arrest by the Airport Police on August 4, 2015, charged with “extortion”.

He said on August 5, this year, he and another investigator, Detective Cpl Richmond Ayayi, accompanied Micah to Micah’s house at Ogbojo to conduct a search.

“In the course of the search, I found a black polythene in a bag and when I opened it, I saw a substance we suspected to be a narcotic drug and questioned him about its source,” he said.

At the station, he said, Micah wrote his statement, which he (detective) tendered in court.
