Feminist Ticks Poverty As The Main Cause Of Depression In Africa

Depression has become a trending word for a while now. Anyone who is seen ranting or doing anything “abnormal” on social media is pronounced depressed!

A staunch feminist has claimed that poverty is the main cause of depression most Nigeria youths are facing. Making her stance known, she furthered that money could solve 70% of most depressed cases people go through.

She made this known via her Facebook post. Her post read;

***Can we admit the fact that poverty is one of the leading causes of depression amongst Nigerians?

Quite a lot of people come inbox to tell me they are depressed. And when I probe further, the only kind of help they need from me is money. If they are not directly asking for money, when they tell you their story, you’d trace their source of sadness to some forms of lack or things money can sort out.

Unfortunately, I’m not rich enough to dash out money to everyone who comes to my inbox to ask. I’ve got my own life to live.

One told me that he finished Secondary school about 7 years ago and has been unable to go to University or Polytechnic despite passing WASSCE. Why? No money. His secondary school mates have graduated and started moving on with their lives but he’s remained stagnant. He’s now suicidal because he feels like a failure.

These are the type of stories I get. And believe it or not, money could have prevented this boy from becoming depressed and suicidal.

We need to admit the fact that poverty is the main cause of depression in Nigeria.

Money can cure more than 70% of “depressed” Nigerians from their depression.
