Alhaji Haruna Alhassan, former Deputy Director of Metro TV, has described as “strange” the circumstances under which a haulage truck knocked his vehicle off the road from the back on Thursday, April 18, at Abofro, near Offinso in the Ashanti Region.
Alhaji Haruna and his wife, who was on board the vehicle with him, escaped unhurt.
The 2012 NPP parliamentary candidate for Bawku Central, in the company of his wife, was returning from Bolgatanga where he attended a high court hearing of a petition he has filed challenging Mahama Ayariga’s election as the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central.
Alhaji Alhassan narrated how the accident occurred to the New Statesman yesterday: “I went to Bolga on the 18th to attend the court hearing in respect of my challenge over the Bawku Central parliamentary election. While returning from Bolga, with my wife, it started raining when we reached Techiman around 7:30 pm. When we reached Abofro, I saw cows were crossing the road and there was a taxi in front of me. I stopped and all a heard was a loud bang at the back. And there was this haulage truck that had hit my car from the back, pushing us to the other side of the road. We hit the taxi in front of us and go off the road.”
What appeared strange to Alhaji Alhassan was the how the driver of the haulage truck delayed in coming out to find out what had happened to him and his wife and the question the driver asked him thereafter.
“The driver did not mind coming out of his truck quickly to find out what had happened to us and when he eventually came out, the question he asked was, ‘ei, so nobody died?’”
What also appeared strange to Alhaji Haruna was that “a police vehicle was trailing us all alone, which I thought was a police vehicle on normal patrol, but after the accident the police vehicle was nowhere to be found.”
The case is being investigated by the police MTTU at Abofro.
