Four dead; nine injured in Bimbilla violence

Four persons have been confirmed dead with nine others injured in a gun battle that ensued in Bimbilla, Thursday.

e deceased person has been identified as Abas Bungu, 30, and a teacher.

Seven houses have also been burnt in Thursday’s violent incidents in the Northern regional town of Bimbilla.

The police confirmed the death to Joy News’  Northern Region correspondent Martina Bugri.

It is not clear yet what may have have provoked the violence but Joy News has picked up information that suggests that the refusal of some butchers to perform some traditional rites is the cause for the renewed violence in the area.

Bimbilla is not new to violence as it has witnessed many ethnic clashes in the recent past.

The police have warned residents to stay indoors. Martina Bugri reports that the area has been deserted after gun shots were fired by some unknown persons.
