Gallywood Needs A Comeback With Jackie Appiah!
Sometime back, the English speaking Ghana Movie industry was given the umbrella name Gallywood and Gollywood to aid mark a differentiation between that sector and the Kumasi-based Asante Twi speaking movies dubbed “Kumawood”.
With the Gallywood, the likes of Van Vicker, failed Parliamentary Candidate John Dumelo, actor turned preacher Majid Michel, Yvonne Nelson, Nadia Buari and others made their mark whilst Kofi Adu, Mercy Aseidu, Empress Nana Ama McBrown, Emelia Brobbey, Kojo Nkansah Lilwin, Kwaku Manu, Wofa Akrobeto, the late Bernard Nyarko, Apostle John Prah, Bill Asamoah, Kyeiwaa and others also propelled the ‘defunct’ Kumawood industry.
In fact, the elegance, dedication and competence of Jackie Appiah in all movies she featured made her character and persona within the cast a unique one. For now, everything points to the fact that the Gallywood movie industry in Ghana is in the ICU and Jackie Appiah is one of the persons who could help revitalize it since Ghanaians miss their own films!
